When a very real little girl named Alice follows a remarkable rabbit down his hole, she steps through a looking glass into a world where the rules don’t make sense and everyone seems absolutely contrary. Lewis Carroll’s classic novels are the perfect metaphor for a child’s journey into the nonsensical land of the grown-ups. Join us for this musical journey to a wonderland where the impossible becomes possible, the unreal, real; where the heights of adventure are limited only by the depths of imagination.
Described by creator Elizabeth Swados as a “pageant of movement, songs, dances, and mime,” Alice in Concert is a delightful “concert drama” that recounts Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through The Looking Glass.” The piece is theatrical, whimsical, and fun for all ages. Swados employs barbershop quartets, Indian raga style, jazz scat, sad soupy violins, Vegas lounge singers, a cappella singing, and even a nod to Bob Dylan in her compositions. Her kaleidoscopic choices constantly reinvigorate and expand Wonderland pushing the audience further into the dream world as the piece progresses.
